Under Graduate Courses Offered and Eligibility Conditions

Candidates seeking admission to the Under Graduate Courses should have passed the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination or an examination equivalent thereto acceptable to the Pondicherry University, Puducherry.

Criteria for Admission
(a) List of courses and relevant subjects for calculation of aggregated percentage of marks

(b) 75% of seats for each course will be reserved for the candidates who are residents to Karaikal region and 25% will be reserved for the candidates who are residents of the other regions of the Puducherry Union Territory.

(c) Admission to the various courses will be on the basis of the normalised percentage of marks.


Procedure to be adopted to arrive at the aggregate marks

1. For admission to B.Sc. Degree courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Computer Science

(a) The average percentage of marks in the qualifying examination will be calculated

(b) The percentage of marks in the relevant subject in the qualifying examination will be calculated

(c) The average of (a) and (b) will be the aggregate marks

(d) For admission to B.Sc. Computer Science, if the candidate has studied Computer Science at the Higher Secondary level an extra 5 marks will be added to the marks arrived at (c) to obtain the aggregate marks. Otherwise the marks arrived at (c) will be the aggregate marks.

2. For admission to B.Com.

(a) The average percentage of marks in the qualifying examination will be calculated
(b) The percentage of marks in the Accountancy in the qualifying examination will be calculated
(c) The average of (a) and (b) will be the aggregate marks.

3. For admission to B.A. Degree course in Economics
(a) The average percentage of marks in the qualifying
examination will be the aggregate marks
(b) If the candidate has studied the relevant subject in the qualifying examination, an extra 5 marks will be added to (a) to arrive at the aggregate marks.

4. For admission to B.A. Degree course in Tamil:
(a) The average percentage of marks in the qualifying
examination will be calculated.
(b) The Percentage of marks in the relevant subject in the
qualifying examination will be calculated.
(c) The average of (a) and (b) will be the aggregate marks.
(d) If the candidate has studied relevant language at the
advanced level in H.Sc., an extra 5 marks will be added to
aggregate marks
arrived at (c) above.


Procedure To Be Adopted To Arrive At The Normalised Marks From The Aggregate Marks:

1. For every additional attempt including the supplementary examination 3 marks will be subtracted from the aggregate marks.

2. 3 marks will be added to the aggregate marks for participation in N.S.S. and N.C.C (For minimum participation of two years and so certified by the head of the institution last studied). The percentage so arrived at will be normalised marks.

3.The candidate under open merit or resident merit will not be eligible for admission, if the normalised marks are below 40 and in the case of other candidate below 35.

4. If the candidate, after having passed the qualifying examination, appears again for improvement, the improvement marks will be considered for the purpose of admission.

5.75% of seats of each course will be reserved for the candidates who are residents of Karaikal region by relaxing the minimum normalised marks wherever necessary. After having exhausted all applications from the Karaikal region for 75% of the seats the applications from other regions may be considered for the remaining seats and vice versa.

Post Graduate Courses offered and eligibility conditions

1.M.A. ECONOMICS AND M.COM.
A student should have secured a minimum of fifty percent(50%) in the Main and Allied subjects. In the case of OBC candidates the minimum percentage of marks is 45%. There is no minimum for scheduled caste and physically handicapped candidates.

2. M.A. TAMIL
(a) A student should have secured a minimum of fifty percent(50%) in the Main and Allied subjects. In the case of OBC candidates the minimum percentage of marks is 45%. There is no minimum for scheduled caste and physically handicapped candidates.
(b) For admission to the course in Tamil first preference will be given to the candidates who have studied the concerned language as the Main subject under Part-III.
(c) After having exhausted all the candidates as mentioned in (b) above candidates who have offered the Tamil in Part-I may be considered.

3.M.A. SOCIAL WORK AND M.A. PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Any graduate is eligible for admission to the course in Social Work/Public Administration.
COMMON CRITERIA FOR ALL COURSES
(a) The candidates should have passed the relevant subject as Main at the degree level except for admission to M.A. Tamil, M.A. Social Work and M.A. Public Administration.
(b) Both Main and Allied subjects will be taken into consideration for calculating the percentage of marks. However the interval valuation marks, if any will be ignored.
